A dental crown, also known as a tooth cap, is a protective and reinforcing covering for a tooth that cannot be restored with fillings, inlays, or onlays. It becomes essential after a root canal because removing infected dental pulp leaves the tooth more susceptible to fractures. Dental crowns can enhance the appearance of teeth that are misshapen, misaligned, or discolored. On the other hand, a dental bridge is used to fill the gap left by a missing tooth, supported by crowns on each side, preventing neighboring teeth from shifting and helping to maintain overall dental function.
Today, individuals dealing with missing, chipped, broken, or misshapen teeth have alternatives to traditional crowns and bridges, thanks to CEREC® technology. Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) represents a cutting-edge approach that we embrace at Amistad Dentistry Cosmetic, Implants, & Orthodontics. Dr. Thomas Taylor and our experienced team in Del Rio, TX, have extensive expertise in cosmetic dentistry, including using CEREC technology to craft customized, high-quality ceramic dental bridges and crowns. This technology enhances the patient experience and delivers exceptional aesthetic results.
Dental crowns provide structure, shape, and function for each patient’s smile. CEREC same-day crowns are made of sturdy, long-lasting substances such as ceramic or composite materials. CEREC same-day bridges are customized crowns that are bridged together and placed using maximum precision to improve the look and function of your smile. We understand the importance of having a great smile in your daily life, so we prioritize your oral health and the best results each step of the way.
Conventional crowns and dental bridges typically involve a two-step process. In the initial appointment, one or more teeth are reshaped on the top and sides to accommodate the crown(s). Any existing tooth decay is removed, and the tooth’s structure is restored to provide support for the crown(s).
An impression is created using a dental putty, which can be somewhat messy and may have an unpleasant taste, but it sets in about five minutes. This crucial step ensures that both the temporary and final dental crown restores a comfortable bite and enhances smile aesthetics. During the first visit, you receive a temporary crown, and you return after the permanent crown is crafted at the dental lab, which typically takes 10–14 days. It’s not uncommon for minor adjustments, such as an occlusal tweak, to be made to the final crown during your follow-up appointment.
Our same-day CEREC crowns and bridges in Del Rio, TX, offer long-lasting results, often enduring for decades or a lifetime with proper care. The cost of this innovative dental procedure varies based on materials and the number of teeth restored. Depending on your insurance policy, CEREC crowns may receive partial coverage.
